Previous Monument 58 Failed Expeditions

The May 2013 Expedition searched the area under seemingly ideal conditions, and in fact it is possible that the marker was located during this expedition.  However, since there is no official record of its being located, the expedition must be recorded as a failure.  On the plus side, this expedition did successfully locate several other markers, including #59 and #60.

The New Years 2015 Expedition reached the Monument 58 area from Kibbie Lake.  Despite the mild winter, the gap where the monument is located had a few feet of snow, and navigation among the fallen logs was difficult even with snow shoes.  The party daled around the ridge to the southwest of the marker and the snow-free terrain north of it--unfortunately, a field calculation error placed the search area far south of its actual location.
